Wimbledon 2022: Coco Gauff's first Grand Slam title will have to wait ... but for how much longer?

LONDON -- It could have been a devastating day for Coco Gauff. She had arrived at Wimbledon brimming with confidence and coming off of her first major final at the French Open last month. Considered one of the favorites at this tournament, many believed this could be the Grand Slam in which Gauff made her seemingly inevitable breakthrough and won the title. And on Saturday, with the Centre Court crowd firmly behind her and coming off of a dominant second-round win, one that she later called some of the best tennis she's played on grass, the 18-year-old looked very much poised to advance to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the third time in her third appearance. Gauff had a blistering start against fellow American Amanda Anisimova, rushing out to a 3-0 lead. But nothing was easy after that. Anisimova won the next four games, and Gauff needed a tiebreak to take the first set. EDITOR'S PICKS Gauff tumbles at Wimbledon; Tan advances again 2d Experts weigh in: What does Serena Wil

Rafael Nadal reaches fourth round at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal, halfway to a calendar-year Grand Slam, advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory over 27th-seeded Lorenzo Sonego on Saturday. The 22-time Grand Slam champion beat the Italian player on Centre Court. "It's been my best match at the championship so far, against the most difficult player I've faced at this level," Nadal told the crowd after the match. "I wish him all the best for the rest of the season. He has a great future here." A few points after Nadal visited the umpire following an incredible shot by Sonego, Nadal called him to the net after he was broken on serve to make it 4-4 in the third set, though it was unclear why. UFC 276 results, highlights: Israel Adesanya outpoints Jared Cannonier to retain middleweight crown

Ahead of the UFC 276 main event, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya made quite a stir with an entrance inspired by WWE legend The Undertaker. The ensuing performance wasn't quite as entertaining as Adesanya methodically worked his way to a unanimous decision victory over Jared Cannonier. Adesanya's gameplan revolved around working the jab, feinting and landing leg kicks. It wasn't pretty and left the crowd frustrated but it was effective in taking out a powerhouse striker in Cannonier. Cannonier attempted to make a mid-fight adjustment to work from the clinch against the cage. Unfortunately for the challenger, when he was able to grab a clinch, he was not often able to do much offensively beyond landing knees to Adesanya's thighs. Can't get enough boxing and MMA? Driver of jet-propelled truck killed in high-speed crash at air show in Michigan

The driver of a truck powered by jet engines was killed during a high-speed accident in front of spectators at an air show in Michigan, police and relatives said Sunday. Chris Darnell, 40, died Saturday at the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show, where he was driving the SHOCKWAVE Jet Truck down a runway at more than 300 miles per hour, police said in a statement. "We have lost our youngest son Chris in an accident doing what he loved; performing with SHOCKWAVE," his father Neal Darnell said on Facebook. In a separate post, he said the accident was a result of "a mechanical failure on the Jet Truck." Video taken at the Battle Creek Executive Airport by apparent air show attendees and posted on social media showed the truck losing control, bursting into flames and crashing, flipping over multiple times as horrified spectators looked on. Moments before the accident, the SHOCKWAVE was seen spewing pyrotechnic flames from its exhaust pipes, apparently a standard part

Kevin Durant trade rumors: Ranking all 29 teams as possible destinations as Nets star asks out of Brooklyn Kevin Durant wants to leave Brooklyn; what are the most likely landing spots?   By  Sam Quinn   Jul 2, 2022 at 1:04 pm ET • 13 min read Watch Now: Kevin Durant   has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets , and his circumstances are somewhat unique. The trade market for superstars tends to be fairly small. They often use their status and contracts to exert an enormous amount of control over their destinations, and most of the time, they've settled on one or two preferred homes before negotiations even begin. A true bidding war through the entire NBA for a single star is exceedingly rarer. Even rarer is the sort of star who could genuinely fit onto any team. But that's what Durant is. On the court, he was malleable enough to join a 73-win team without missing a beat. Need him to run your offense for lengthy stretches? He can do that. Want him to be your late-game isolat
